About Us
Janmitram is one of India’s finest non profit
organizations; currently working with 15000 famelies
across 300 villages of northern Chhattisgarh, where over
80% of population relies on subsistence agriculture and
living under poverty line since inception. The
organization is continuously working on health,
education, sustainable use of natural resources,
women’s empowerment, youth development, child care
and social enterprise.
Our carefully prepared, targeted programs are making
tangible and transformative impacts over community. Each
year, thousands of families achieve food security and
sustainable livelihood. Over 8000 women move closer to
gender equality and financial strength. They Women take
protection against domestic violence. Over 500 children
of disadvantaged communities receive high quality
education in its school.
Janmitram is assisted by its communities, government and
their subsidiary institutions, banks, verities of funding
agencies and donors. The organisation believes in social
entrepreneurship, rather channelling aid among
beneficiaries.
Approach
The organization exists from year 2002 and primarily
works in tribe dominated district of Raigarh in
Chhattisgarh state. The organisation was formed by
professionals of different fields with a vision to bring
livelihood enhancement through sustainable utilization of
existing land, water and forest resources. It is to be
catalyzed by value chain development, knowledge
upgradation, and credit access.
JanMitram facilitates its beneficiaries to avail better
access to the inputs and services either directly or
through networking and convergence. Community
participation in this process is organized through proven
tool of SHGs and aggregating them into sustainable
federations.
Interventions
Economic development makes no sense if it’s not coupled
better health and living conditions. JanMitram intervenes
in community health and tries to ensure better hygiene
and sanitation in village localities and ensure
vaccination and nutritional intake. This is again, done
with help of peer who stand from community itself.
Skill development and employment generation is third
major issue JanMitram deals with. Its target group i.e.
unskilled labor and semi-educated youth are taken for
skill acquiring, skill enhancement and entrepreneurship
development training and they are supported with post
training follow-up with technical and financial and
managerial perspective of their business. Categorically,
JanMitram works in following areas.

addition, Marketing)

Vocational training Non-Farm sector, placement /
Hand-holding to neo-entrepreneurs
(C) Community health
Malnutrition, Sanitation, Reducing IMR & MMR, AIDS-STI Prevention
(D) Development of CBOs, Empowerment and Advocacy
SHG, Federations with different objectives. Strengthening Panchyati Raj
(E) Participatory Planning, Management, Monitoring
Evaluation of Developmental plans related to livelihoods and NRM.
The Emblem of Janmitram
The emblem of Janmitram shows tribe bowman, over the background
of morning sun. This depicts object and methodology of
organization.
The man in emblem is faceless, depicting the importance of
team work rather than individual efforts. At Janmitram,
consensus and situational leadership is the key. Janmitras
are out to kill social evils. Their feet marching ahead,
depicts progressiveness. Presence of Janmitra, throws light
over darkness of society, as sun alights and removes darkness
of universe.
Below is quote from ‘Kathopanishada’ that speaks –

जनमित्रम की मुद्रा में प्रातः कालीन सूर्य की पृष्ठभूमि में संधानरत आदिवासी युवक प्रदर्शित है| यह मुद्रा संस्था के उद्देश्य एवं कार्यविधि का प्रतिपादन करती है|
मुद्रा में प्रदर्शित युवक का मुखदृश्य विहीन होना इंगित करता है कि जनमित्रम कोई विशिष्ट चेहरा नहीं है| यह एक टीम है जहां सहभागिता सर्वोपरि है| प्रत्येक सदस्य समान रूपेण महत्वपूर्ण और नेतृत्वकारी है| वे संधानित धनुष के साथ सामाजिक बुराइयों को नाश करने के लिए निकले हैं| उनके बड़े कदम प्रगतिशीलता को इंगित करते हैं| अंधकारमय परिदृश्य में जनमित्रम सूर्य के समान अपने तेजोमय उपस्थिति से समुदाय को प्रकाशित करते हैं|
